Tchaikovsky | The Nutcracker – complete ballet music
Conducted by Péter Halász
Well, the Nutcracker is something that shall not be introduced – one might think. However… the “tragedy” of this music is the same fact that made it so popular: it is danced to. The choreography pressed the music too hard even in the times of Tchaikovsky – something that has even intensified in the last hundred years due to the new and more and more complex dance steps: anyone who sees the Nutcracker in the Opera can merely listen to what Tchaikovsky put on paper. Double-slowed tempos, odd slow-downs and hauls – several wounds mar this veteran classic. What we are going to do now is to take it, clean off the wounds, read the sheets over again, and try to perform what the composer originally thought of his offspring that became the most popular.
